Another failed search it seems. Wow Did they notify applicants of that, or post it again?

They were hiring a quantitative sociologist during the 2021-2022 academic job cycle as well. I don't know if they hired anyone. And they did the search again, only to fail? What is going on?

Got a rejection letter like a month ago? Wonder what's happening and what do they really want

They only want someone who would be competitive for top R1s. But those type of applicants don’t want to work there for several reasons. That’s why they had back to back fails.

Okay, but if that happened during the first failed search, shouldn't they have realized that and not made the same mistake twice?
Stevens Institute of Technology is an R2. I don't understand why people only want la crème de la crème. Get an applicant who is a decent teacher, has a few publications, and a promising research agenda, and you should be good.

Definitely a buyer's market so schools can be picky. However, Stevens is primarily an engineering and computer science school and social science only gets the leftover resources. There is also only one sociologist in the department. So it is unlikely any top soc applicants will want to work there. They really shouldn't be so picky, but they still are.
