What does it mean when the position title has slashes? For instance, "Assistant Professor / Lecturer of Communications / Social Sciences". Being that a MA is required, and PhD preferred, does this mean it's a tenure track assistant prof position for those with a PhD? And instructor for those with an MA?

Is it a two- or four-year institution? I see community college job ads. with terms like "full-time instructor" often, when what they are hiring is a tenure-track professor. They just use different terms for some reason. I have seen job ads. that state it's tenure-track for someone with their Ph.D. but that the hire will have rank of instructor until the Ph.D. is granted. If the details are not spelled out explicitly in the job ad., then you can always e-mail the search chair, hiring dept., and/or HR.
