I have a bad relationship with my PhD advisor (committee chair). I found a TT AP job this year but I am sure I’ll be on the job market again either next year or three or five years later, cuz I want to move to a better location and better institution. I’m 90% certain my advisor won’t write me letter at that time. Will that affect my job search (as an Assistant Professor)? Do I need to decline my current offer and do a postdoc instead (or take leave and do a postdoc in my second year as AP) to get a new advisor’s letter?
