The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the University of South Dakota invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Sociology. The preferred start date is August 17, 2020, but a January 2021 start will be considered.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses such as introduction to sociology, research methods, theory, and social science writing, as well as possible elective courses. Teaching at the Vermillion Main Campus and online will be expected. Other duties will include departmental service, including significant involvement with a new Sociology Club for students and/or other activities that engage students. The ideal candidate will be active in research and provide students with the opportunity to get involved in his or her research.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Sociology is required. ABD’s will be considered if there is clear evidence that completion of the doctorate is imminent.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience and may be given to candidates who use qualitative research methods.

Its courses support the General Education curriculum of the University, as well as such programs as Criminal Justice, International Studies, pre-professional programs in health care, and Sustainability. The Sociology major and minor are also offered online and at USD’s Community College for Sioux Falls.
