Position Description
The Center for Asian Democracy (CAD) at the University of Louisville seeks to hire a Post-Doctoral Associate for a two-year appointment starting in Fall 2012, with the option to extend for an additional year (subject to performance evaluation).
The Post-Doctoral Associate will: conduct research on the proposed project, present an annual lecture on their work to Faculty and Graduate student, and participate in activities related to their research at the Center for Asian Democracy and on the UofL campus. The successful candidate is expected to produce tangible research outputs during their time in the position (such as conference papers, peer reviewed journal articles, or book chapters). The position does not include teaching responsibilities, although teaching opportunities may be available. The Post-Doctoral Associate is expected to be in residence during the academic year in Louisville.
The search for the CAD Post-Doctoral Associate is open to scholars in all humanities and social science disciplines, provided they demonstrate how their research will contribute to the analysis of those processes that have helped to foster and consolidate democracy in Asia, as well as of those that have and continue to hinder it. Democratization here is conceptualized as including (but not exclusively): administrative, electoral and political reform; state building; state and policy capacity; processes of democratic transition and consolidation; electoral authoritarian regime types and dynamics; sequencing; civil society/new social movements. Applications are particularly encouraged from scholars who are engaged in comparative, intersectional and/or interdisciplinary research.
