A friend of a friend recently told me about a number of positions that may be coming up at UT Dallas. Has anyone heard what is happening there? It seems that they have recently lost one faculty member (since August?) and now a friend has confirmed that another is headed down under, and another is headed to Sam Houston. What is happening?
Also seems that there are rumors about other pending departures, potential criminal charges against faculty, pending procedures to strip tenure, and/or termination of faculty members. Is there any merit to these rumors? I keep my eye on the department to see if I may be able to move closer to my partner, but now it seems like this may be problematic.

Someone I went to graduate school with works there, and the situation is complicated. Apparently there are some things that are happening around the department. A few of the senior faculty members were fraudulently awarding grades to students in the professional masters program in exchange for money. Seems pretty serious as the university had to meet with the accrediting body and may be punished as a result. Heard that the university had to recertify the students (most of whom are cops) degrees. Wonder when they may get sued. Don’t know anything else.

I can confirm that Sam Houston is taking one of these “troubled” faculty members with the full knowledge of his integrity issues. Apparently bringing a low-quality specialty journal and being in a leadership position of a national society means more than integrity and class (there is more to the story). Glad I am close to graduating and leaving this place.

This is my shocked face that Lady and Sire P are involved in something unethical. You cannot publish 25+ articles a year and be an ethical person. The serious scholars have long known that these two are problematic.

While Shocked’s sentiment is right about the pair, their conclusion is wrong. The main person (at least by name recognition) is the Editor of PQ. The others involved, while having poor professional reputation, are by no means major players in the field.
Wonder what ACJS ethics committee knows about this? Likewise, can’t imagine Sage will look fondly upon someone with serious integrity issues representing their brand.

This must be why the Ps are asking everyone about potential job openings.
Also, wonder why the university has not fired those responsible?

It's probably fair to assume that if the university is trying to take steps to fire tenured faculty, it will not happen immediately. There are strict due process policies that must be followed (at UTD and everywhere else). Additionally, such actions usually include attorneys for both sides. This sounds like the kind of situation that could be ongoing for a while.

There is incontrovertible evidence that the University wants to fire these people, and will likely be successful. The proof comes from the parties involved saying this to others. Additionally, a former student from the program seems to be considering suing the university and the parties involved. The students' attorney has filed an open records request which the university has complied with.

At least one of their Assistant Professors is interviewing elsewhere also. Pretty sure this person is NOT involved in the scandal, but is more indication of an implosion. NP also interviewed for a Chair position elsewhere.

As much as many of us would hope that the Ps are involved in this, my information says they are clean and clear. This is not to say that they knew about it and looked the other way, but no signs of direct involvement.

That the former chair was forced out for her role in this situation. Also, fairly sure that ACJS now knows. Cue dramatic music and grab some popcorn.

I just saw the main person implicated in this scandal at ASC laughing and joking with the Ps. Back in my day people had shame and would have the hood sense not to show their face after embarrassing themself this badly. Also, if the Ps are spending quality time with this integrity challenged person, how innocent can they actually be?
