Unity College (Maine) is a private, liberal arts, sustainability science-based institution with an environmental focus. The College offers Bachelor's and Associates degrees and currently enrolls over 650 full and part-time students. Known for hands-on learning in a full range of environmental programs, a collaborative faculty and staff, and a strong community, Unity College occupies a special niche in higher education and as such has been named 2016-2017 College of Distinction. This position will support instructional and disciplinary expertise in sustainability studies with a specialization in a social science such as anthropology, sociology, and/or environmental policy. This position will support transdisciplinary thought and contribute to the foundational support of our transdisciplinary approach to education. Teaching includes 21 course credits annually, consisting of a combination of social sciences, Environmental Citizen general education courses, and other classes as needed. Other duties include advising, professional development, scholarship, and college service. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a social science field, environmental policy, or sustainability, with demonstrable experience in effective writing. Advanced ABD's will be considered, but must have their degree in hand by July 2018.
