Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a full-time, one-year position with possibility of an additional year of renewal as a Visiting Assistant Professor specializing in criminology/criminal justice beginning mid-August 2017. A PhD in criminology, sociology or a related discipline is required by the time of appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes the option of receiving additional compensation for summer teaching. This position includes health, dental and vision benefits, as well as conference travel support during the academic year.
The successful candidate will teach 5 undergraduate courses over the academic year. One of the courses will be Pacific Seminar 2, the university’s general education program, and is a topical seminar designed by the successful candidate for freshmen. Other courses will be in criminology, criminal justice, corrections, and a section of Introduction to Sociology. Preference is given to applicants with teaching experience in criminology, criminal justice, corrections, and urban poverty. The department is also interested in candidates that incorporate a social justice approach to address race, class and gender in the study of criminology.
A PhD in criminology, sociology or a related discipline is required by the time of appointment.
