ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SOCIOLOGY

The Department of Sociology in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Indiana University Kokomo invites applications for a full time, tenure-track, 10-month, Assistant Professor of Sociology beginning August 1, 2017. Responsibilities include teaching various undergraduate courses in Sociology. Candidates with expertise in any area of Sociology are encouraged to apply, but candidates with expertise in sociology of the family, childhood, and/or family violence are preferred. Candidates will be expected to regularly teach introduction to sociology and/or social problems and policies, and research methods. Candidates who can and/or are willing to teach undergraduate courses on social theory and/or social statistics are preferred.
Research with undergraduates is expected and supported. Research in Sociology (or in other closely related areas) and publications are required for promotion and tenure. Appropriate university/professional/community service is also required including committee work, assessment of the major, and engaging in campus initiatives to increase retention and enrollment.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Sociology and previous teaching experience. Candidates with a completed Ph.D. are preferred, although ABDs near completion of dissertation will be considered and, if hired, will have until November 1st of the second year to earn their Ph.D. Evidence of effective teaching, publications, and record of service will be required for promotion and tenure.
