The Department of Sociology at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Sociology, beginning August 16, 2017. The primary area of specialization is open; however, preference will be given to candidates with research interests in criminology or criminal justice. The faculty in the Department of Sociology at Saint Joseph's University approach criminal justice from a sociological perspective. The successful candidate will a) establish and maintain an active research program, b) teach a wide range of core and elective courses, including in the area of their specialization, in the graduate criminal justice and undergraduate programs, and c) participate in the affairs of the department and contribute to the mission of the University. Duties and Responsibilities:
Tenure-track faculty at Saint Joseph's University teach three (3) courses per semester, advise students, are active scholars, and participate in service to the department, the College of Arts and Sciences, and to the University.
Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice or a related field. ABD will be considered, but Ph.D is expected by August 15, 2017.
Evidence of quality or potential quality in teaching.
Evidence of the potential for a strong research program.
Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Saint Joseph's University.

The Jesuits pay more than the Christian Brothers at La Salle, less than the Augustinians at Villanova. At the end of the day, they're all Catholics, so don't plan to retire at 50.

bump - anyone with any actual info on salary? The Chronicle of Higher Education has salary info here. Assume that it's well below the mean for the university given that the position is in social science and the mean is for all disciplines.
