Research Associate - Post-Doctoral Fellow
Position Summary:
The North Central Regional Center for Rural Development (NCRCRD) is jointly funded by USDA and land-grant universities in its 12-state region.
The NCRCRD is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to execute the following activities:
Actively engage with the NCRCRD advisory board, land-grant university administrators, faculty and Extension staff to develop and disseminate curriculum and to write refereed journal articles related to one or more of the following areas:
• Innovations diffusion for rural development,
• Sustainable communities,
• Leadership development and
• Entrepreneurial communities.
Through the experience with NCRCRD, the fellow will complement the strong disciplinary training of their PhD program with exposure to a broad range of sciences and learning-by-doing in rural development Extension curriculum design and pilot-testing. At the end of their post-doctoral experiences, the fellows will enjoy a network of senior academic and policy colleagues from which they may launch successful careers as faculty members or policy analysts.
Fellows will be compensated commensurate with recent PhDs in their field of study, and will have access to health care benefits. The position will be appointed for up to twelve months (contingent on final budget approvals); appointments of shorter duration can be considered, depending on the applicant's goals. The successful candidate will be expected to relocate to the greater East Lansing area and will be provided with an office on the Michigan State University campus. The position will likely involve overnight travel to other parts of the NCRCRD's twelve-state area, Washington DC, or to conferences related to the topics addressed by the fellow.
Individuals applying for the position should expect to begin working sometime between May and August, 2016. Individuals who hold ABD status are strongly encouraged to apply, but should expect to finish their PhD before starting the post-doctoral position.

Associate - Community Behavioral Health – Fixed Term (Post-Doctoral Fellow)
Position Summary:
Michigan State University seeks a Community Behavioral Health Research Associate (Post-Doctoral Fellow) for an initiative spearheaded by the four Regional Rural Development Centers in conjunction with the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Community Assessment and Education to Promote Behavioral Health Planning and Evaluation(CAPE) initiative will assist local (state, county, city) decision makers (private for-profit, private non-profit, and government) in selecting and using data-driven benchmarks for identifying resource investment priorities and evaluating progress in improving community behavioral health outcomes.
Key responsibilities include: identify potential sources of information used by local decision makers directing investments in community behavioral health; analyze community-level data to discover relationships with health outcomes and publish the results in refereed journals and present at conferences; contribute to curricula developed by the initiative, including content and editorial work; develop or expand strong working relationships with state agencies nationally; design and facilitate administration of surveys of end-users of community behavioral health data; develop region-appropriate toolkits and curricula appropriate for community health decision makers; assist in dissemination of materials, including delivery of training, and evaluation; and coordinate activities with USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, DHHS's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and University Extension services nationally.
This is a fixed-term 9-month appointment, with a possible 3 month extension based on funding and successful performance.
