I've used NVivo, Transana, HyperResearch, and MAXQDA. Of these, I've found MAXQDA the least buggy and with the best tradeoff between intuitive user interface and features. Has anyone had experiences with other software?

I used NVivo for my diss and hated every single second of it. Now I use Dedoose and it's FANTASTIC. Beats NVivo hands down.
Yes, they had a glitch last year where a bunch of data was lost, BUT since then they have upgraded servers and added back ups. And my projects didn't lose anything because I backed them up locally anyway.

I use atlas ti. I love the web-workshops, the tips/advice areas, and general community of support. It is challenging to learn at first, and the interface is a little hard to understand, but (perhaps with most things...) easier with practice and patience.

I like Atlas.ti, too. I've just started the switch to the mac version, though, so I can't say really endorse it until I get a good feel for it until I work with it for a few months.

...That's great. I did not know they'd finally expanded platforms. I've considered using it, but didn't feel like the hassle of splitting my hard drive. Thanks for that tidbit, I may now finally take the plunge!

Be aware, Mac version doesn't have all the functionalities as PC version yet (especially if you work in teams), but at least you don't have to track every primary doc's path to the HU anymore. When you import a doc, it copies the whole thing into one main file.

Personally I like HyperRESEARCH. All the basic coding functions are really easy to use. Intuitive user interface. Made to run on macs. Putting that aside, I like atlas.ti better than NVivo, but both are in my experience more complicated than they need to be with a range of functions that most people won't use. YMMV.

It's interesting how many people are loving atlas ti because I just want to die whenever I use it. I agree with qualsoftware that both it and NVivo are overly complicated. HyperResearch is good, but it seems like MAXQDA does much of the same things better (although it may be more expensive).
I love Dedoose too, but the incident qualperson references terrifies me.
