I'm abroad and my school is planning to invite a US sociologist as guest speaker for a mini-conference or simply to give a talk. Is it usual simply to pay for the travel costs or do you pay additional money for these things? If so, how what's the range for a full professor? Thanks for your input!

If they're interested in visiting you, you can probably get away with travel and a moderate honorarium. If they're not that interested, I doubt they'll make the trip.

Depends on how famous. I normally net about $1,000 + all expenses I incur. Note I am an assistant, not a full.

Thank you, Depends. How much would you consider a "moderate honorarium"?

Couple hundred dollars to about a thousand at the very max? You could also ask them what would be reasonable or look for a department hosting something similar and ask the organizers what they paid.
