a friend of mine had an interview a week or so ago. she told me that given the exceptionally short reviewing time and very late search, it felt like an inside candidate job.

I work in that department at BMCC. I honestly don't have a full update on the search process (I'm not on that committee), but I wanted to chime in to downplay the inside hire speculation. The Social Sciences department is interdisciplinary and quite large, and there are/were multiple hires going on in several different fields. We're also transitioning to having a new dept. chair (the current chair is retiring). And with the teaching load (5/4) it can be hard to get everyone on the same page and everything done during the semester. Given all that, scheduling and conducting interviews toward the end of the spring semester looked pretty hectic.
I'm not sure how much experience you've had interviewing at CC's, but the process can be completely different compared to 4-year schools. A lot of CCs have later searches. It's not unusual for the interview timeline to also be very compressed - I interviewed at one CC where I found out about the 1st interview (an in-person, 1 hour, with search committee) a few weeks after the application deadline, and had a 2nd / final interview with the VP and President of the university the following week. My experiences with BMCC weren't quite as speedy as that, but still much shorter review time than anything I experienced when applying/interviewing at 4-year schools.
Anyway, wish I had details about this search but I hope that helps a little!

Though not at the same department and school, I also second "insider's" comments.

I know we cannot speculate, but I'm assuming we can find out afterwards.
