Earlier posts here suggested that the OSU population and health search was cancelled. But I recently got a rejection letter from the job (uh, thanks, I had figured out at some point before now that I didn't get it) saying they could only interview a few people. Anyone know what happened?

I know they had an offer out to a mid career person who decided to stay where she was. Based on when I heard that, I'm guessing they didn't have time to pursue another offer.

Yes they hired a demographer but the person has deferred for a year and for reasons associated with their current institution has not outed themselves.
