We are late with approval for a job posting, but for those interested in work related to military service and the lifecourse (or who might become interested in such topics.)
Feel free to contact me with questions about the position. MK
*University of Maryland, College Park, Center for Research on Military Organization
We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow within the Department of Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park and affiliated with the Center for Research on Military Organization (CRMO, crmo.umd.edu). The CRMO serves to: conduct basic and applied research on military organization, military members, veterans and their families and coordinate such research across campus; train the next generation of military sociologists; facilitate communication among social scientists conducting research on the military; advise policy makers so that decisions can be informed by the most recent social science research.
The post-doctoral fellow will contribute to ongoing and new research efforts to understand the role of military service in shaping various socially valued outcomes over the lifecourse. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to spend about half of their time working independently and about half of their time working together with one or more mentors from among our CRMO faculty on current and future projects in the CRMO. The postdoctoral fellow will take part in the grant-writing and publication process in relation to these projects and will be mentored and supported in developing his or her own program of research.
Qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in Sociology or related discipline, a strong foundation in quantitative methods and excellent writing and data analysis skills. Preference will be given to scholars interested in pursuing a career in research related to active duty military, veterans, or military or veteran families. The position will begin on or before September 1, 2014. To apply, please go to: ejobs.umd.edu/postings/25712 where you will need: 1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) three references, and 4) no more than 3 reprints or related writing samples. Applications will be reviewed as they are received beginning May 15, 2014. Salary will be commensurate with experience, and in line with current NIH post-doc salary guidelines. Contact Meredith Kleykamp (kleykamp@umd.edu) for additional information or questions.
The University of Maryland is an equal opportunity affirmative action employer with a commitment to racial, cultural, and gender diversity. Women, minorities, and veterans or military family members are encouraged to apply.
