The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is seeking two Associates for Survey Research to help the denomination and its entities make better decisions. The Associates will work with constituents to determine their data needs and use social science research techniques—including surveys, focus groups, and searches of administrative records—to assemble appropriate data from and about Presbyterians; conduct statistical analyses of these data; and disseminate results to church leaders and other relevant groups through written reports, presentations, and website postings.
Requirements:
• A Ph.D. in a social science or related area
• A minimum of five years’ experience in social science research (time spent doing research in graduate school setting may be included in this minimum)
• Ability to demonstrate excellence in report writing and oral presentations
• Understanding of and respect for Christian principles
Desired skills (at least three of the following):
• A background in an applied setting focusing on denominations, congregations, or individual religious behavior
• Experience in data analyses using R, Stata, and/or SPSS
• Experience designing paper and web-based surveys
• Experience conducting qualitative research, particularly focus groups and interviews
• Experience in writing and securing large research grants
Screening begins immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.
Expected start dates: One position as soon as possible; the second position will start during the summer of 2014. Relocation to Louisville area is required; relocation expenses may be covered.
