Received a request this afternoon to have letters of recommendation sent in. Message also explained that/why a revised announcement for this position has been posted.

I was also contacted. Can anyone explain how the call was revised (have yet to renew ASA membership so can't see the new listing in the job bank)??

I was also contacted. Is there anyone who applied and who had not submitted letters who was not contacted? This would signal a shortlist
I am not sure about the change, but I think the previous statement prioritized teaching methods and now it does not. It may also be that they added the request to send the letters. The current ad asks to send letters through Interfolio and I'm guessing that maybe that wasn't there in the first place.

I was contacted. Seems like too many people for the short list, but let's hope.

I think the original add did not request letters of recommendation. We had to enter the references info into the application form, which in most universities' sites generates requests for the references to upload a letter. So probably that's the confusion they mentioned. If that's the case, then probably Applied and cds1 got a different email because there is some sort of shortlist. Please correct me if I'm wrong and you had already sent your letters.

We received this through our department listserv today.
Dear Graduate Director:
We are looking for someone to join our department as a tenure-track assistant professor. The research field is open, as are the teaching fields.
Would you please forward information about this position (appended) to students in your doctoral program who are ABD or have recently completed their doctorates?
We advertised this position on the ASA website in November but, as we look at our pool, we realize that we failed to adequately convey how open we were in the applicants' fields of research and areas of teaching interest. So, we have reopened the search and will accept applications until the position is filled. We have posted a revised position listing in the ASA job bank. We hope that you can assist us by letting your department's students know that when we said "the research area and teaching areas are open," we really meant it.
Thank you vey much for forwarding this to your ABD's and recent Ph.D.'s.

I applied to the original ad. I did NOT have letters sent in (they were not required), however the email i received the other day did NoT ask for letters. I think the people who sent in an application for the orig ad and were recently asked for letters, must hav made sum sort of cut

I got an e-mail explaining that they re-posted their ad because they felt that the original ad did not capture that the position was open-specialty. The e-mail also explained my application is complete and that I am still under consideration.

I would just like to make a general comment about requests for recommendation letters. If you did not receive this request, it does not mean you are not on the short list. Having served as SC chair (not for this institution), I have requested that incomplete applications be fixed in order to be considered (prior to the committee even meeting). In some cases it could mean that the committee is considering you, but all the people who committed to send letters had not done so, and they need this letter to add you to the short list. However, it could just be that they do not want to consider any incomplete applications.

Does anyone know anything about FAU? The soc dept? Boca Raton? What are the standards for making tenure? Do they offer spousal hires? Is it a friendly/unfriendly place? What is it like to live in Boca Raton? Florida? Cost of living near and around FAU? Is it true the Governor of Florida wants to abolish tenure for univ profs? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!
