Job Description:
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in sociology to begin in August 2012. Ph.D. in hand by that date and teaching experience required; assistant professor level. We seek someone with a specialty in urban and/or environmental sociology. Additionally, an indispensable part of this position is demonstrated accomplishment in teaching undergraduate social statistics, a course the successful candidate will teach annually. Located in a medium-sized city forty-five miles west of Boston, Holy Cross is a highly selective, residential, liberal arts college in the Jesuit tradition, emphasizing intellectual mentorship of its roughly 2,700 students and the pursuit of social justice. See academics.holycross.edu/dean/facultyresources/newfacultyinfo -information for new faculty for further information. Class size is small (N=25) for the 3-2 teaching load per year. The Department consists of nine sociologists and four anthropologists. We seek a colleague committed to excellence in undergraduate liberal arts teaching with an active research and publication agenda. Holy Cross offers a full-salary one semester research leave prior to tenure review and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for senior faculty. Full applications, due October 7, 2011, will consist of a letter of application describing research and teaching interests; a C.V.; a teaching portfolio including a statement of teaching philosophy, syllabi and typical assignments; two representative writing samples; and three letters of recommendation. Transcripts should be available upon request. Please send these materials electronically to Professor Edward Thompson, Search Committee Chair, at sociologyhire2011@holycross.edu. We will be interviewing at the ASA meetings, August 2011.
