Christopher Newport University invites applications for a one-year appointment as Lecturer in the University's Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology to begin August 19, 2013. The Department offers majors in Sociology and Social Work with concentrations in Anthropology and Criminology. The teaching load for this appointment is 4-4. This position seeks an earned Ph.D. in Sociology. A hired candidate with a Ph.D. in Sociology can anticipate an initial appointment of Lecturer. A hired candidate with a Ph.D. in sociology nearly completed can anticipate an initial appointment of Instructor. The candidate must be committed to undergraduate education in the context of liberal learning and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching. Teaching responsibilities primarily will include statistics and quantitative research methods. Additional areas of expertise for this position are open, but we are particularly interested in candidates who can teach courses that fit with the department curricula.
