I am interested in the Research Assoc. position. Anyone know anything about this org? is it a good place to work-collegial place to embark on research?

I worked there some years back and it was a great place. The research dept. is a lovely group of folks. The only issue is it is a non-profit that researches its own programs. So evals and reports get edited by multiple folks up the line of command and the tone has to fit the organizational tone. This is pretty standard for non-profit org-based research, but something to expect. There is much less freedom in what you choose to research and how you write it up than there is at unis or think tanks. But if you are on board with that, it's a great place that does some really good work.

A friend of mine worked there, and based on what they told me, it was a good place to work. Supportive environment, interesting projects (though as the above person noted, not necessarily of one own's choosing), and an understanding boss when it came to family obligations, work/life balance etc.
