The Department of Sociology/Anthropology/Criminal Justice at the University of Michigan-Flint invites applications for a tenure-track position in URBAN sociology at the Assistant Professor level, to begin Fall 2013. Candidtes with a research agenda relevent to City of Flint concerns will receive high priority. PhD in Sociology is required; ABD’s with defense date by May 2013 will be considered. UM-Flint stresses excellent teaching, scholarship and civic engagement. Candidates should submit evidence of promise as teacher/scholars and their willingness to participate in community outreach. Teaching load is 3/3. Besides urban-focused courses and Introduction to Sociology, the candidate is expected to teach one or more core courses in the sociology program (e.g. social theory, statistics, research methods) as well as contribute to the First Year Experience. Review of applications will begin October 1. Candidates should submit a letter of application outlining teaching/research interests, a CV, contact information for three references, evidence of teaching ability, and writing samples via email. hasn't flint been running this search for a year or so now? has it failed in the past?
frankly, i'm curious how many applications they typically get...does any one have any sense of this?
