Posting Summary: The University of Virginia's Center to Promote Effective Youth Development, Youth-Nex, has open positions for up to four (4) incumbents to join the Youth-Nex Postdoctoral Training Program. Youth-Nex is housed within the Curry School of Education but is a Cross-University, Multidisciplinary Center with approximately 25 faculty, associates and affiliates.
The Youth-Nex Postdoctoral Training Program focuses upon multi-disciplinary and multi-method training from various University departments, colleges, schools and constituents, including distinguished faculty such as: Patrick Tolan Ph.D., Joseph Allen Ph.D., Art Weltman Ph.D., Nancy Deutsch Ph.D., Daniel Cox Ph.D., Dewey Cornell Ph.D. and Joanna Lee Williams Ph.D. The intent is to train scholars with the capability to: conduct descriptive research as it relates to promoting effective youth development; develop methods for intervention and prevention of problem behaviors or conditions which affect youth. The Center has four programs of research: Supportive & Helpful Relationships, Health & Well-Being, Engaged Citizenship and Avoiding Risk. The Postdoctoral Training Program's approach is through mentoring trainees. Two faculty members are assigned per incumbent to train into multi-disciplinary or methodological and substantive expertise in effective youth development. Funding for this project is available for up to 3 years.
The completion of a Ph.D. degree in Education, Psychology, Human Development, Sociology or a related discipline is required by the incumbent's appointment start date. Candidates with prior research experience, especially in the area of inter-disciplinary research with compelling evidence of interest in the scholarship of the Youth-Nex Center are encouraged to apply. The expected hire date will be between May 25, 2012 and August 25, 2012; or as negotiated with the successful incumbents.
