General Statement of Duties: +Two-year postdoctoral teaching fellowship in Social & Criminal Justice to begin August, 2012. The department maintains a Sociology Major with a Social & Criminal Justice Concentration; the Concentration emphasizes a critical orientation to the study of inequality, crime and criminal justice. We are interested in candidates whose research and teaching demonstrate a critical orientation. Candidates should be able to teach broadly in the social and criminal justice field; possible areas of specialization include: law enforcement/policing, punishment/corrections, court processes, comparative/international criminal justice, community/alternative sanctions, and inequality and crime (race/ethnicity, class, gender). The successful candidate will also be expected to teach core courses in the Concentration (e.g. Delinquency, Criminology, Introduction to Social & Criminal Justice). This position includes a teaching load of three courses per semester. Candidates for this position must have completed their Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice or a related field within the past three years or must be able to do so no later than August, 2012.
Required Qualifications: Demonstration of critical orientation in research and teaching; ability to teach broadly in the social and criminal justice field; areas of specialization that include: law enforcement/policing, punishment/corrections, court processes, comparative/international criminal justice, community/alternative sanctions, inequality and crime (race/ethnicity, class, gender); ability to also teach courses in the Concentration (e.g. Delinquency, Criminology, Introduction to Social & Criminal Justice); completion of the Ph.D. within the last three years, and no later than August, 2012.
