The Distributed Leadership Study is currently conducting a search for a post-doctoral fellow or research professional to take a senior role in an ongoing study of school leadership practice and instructional reform.
The project seeks candidates with demonstrated experience in designing and undertaking empirical investigations of school reform, the school organization, and teachers’ social interactions. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in quantitative approaches, especially using surveys and social network instruments. Candidates with a Ph.D. in one of the social sciences (e.g., sociology, psychology, economics, organizational studies) or education are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates with a Master’s degree in one of these areas plus requisite work experience are also strongly encouraged to apply. The position will provide ample opportunities for a post-doctoral fellow to pursue a scholarly program of research.
Additional requirements: strong writing skills, at least 2-3 years experience in applied statistics with demonstrated proficiency with statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, or STATA; advanced proficiency in MS Office applications, as well as an understanding of relational databases; strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines and to multi-task; demonstrated ability to quickly learn novel software packages; familiarity with professional survey design software (such as SNAP) and/or software for social network analysis (such as UCINet, Pajek, Statnet, or StOCNET) a plus.
Responsibilities will include working with the principal investigator in the design and implementation of research studies that investigate school leadership and instructional improvement. The post-doc/research analyst will design and oversee data collection, conduct statistical analyses, and will write and disseminate findings from the work. Other responsibilities include data management, selection of appropriate hardware and software, and overseeing the process of data transfer for source agencies, and selection of the appropriate graphic and electronic means of representing the data contained in scientific reports. Related duties as required or assigned.
Review of applications will begin February 20th. The start date for this position is June or July 2012.
