Congrats Heading North; you seem quite excited! And apparently coming from somewhere south of Minnesota. Which, on second though, isn't that hard to do.

Just curious - have any other applicants received correspondence from Hamline? Other than an acknowledgment of my application, I never heard from them again. Not even one of the standard "check your race" forms, and certainly no rejection letter yet. Seems odd.

Maybe the candidate who was offered the job hasn't signed a contract yet? They probably won't send rejection letters until that happens. Just a guess, I have no inside knowledge.

I'm a bit closer to the situation and I can confirm that that is likely the case. I am sure the committee will send the appropriate info when it is legally appropriate to do so.

I would add that 'headed north' may have divulged information earlier than s/he should have, a bit unprofessional, but understandable.

I would add that 'headed north' may have divulged information earlier than s/he should have, a bit unprofessional, but understandable. Although you and others are probably right in assuming that 'headed north' is the person who took the job, it is possible that a friend, acquaintance, or an advisor posted the comment. Of course, I don't see anything wrong with blurting out to the world, "I GOT A JOB!" Public schools usually announce their finalists, which outs candidates to the world (even if candidates are in other TT positions). I would personally keep things hush hush until the ink is dry (and even after I would only tell advisors, friends, and family) but certainly would not think that a person is "unprofessional" for announcing it to the world immediately after they accepted. If the school didn't tell you to keep it hush hush, you didn't do anything wrong in my opinion.

I was the poster who shared the confirmation that the candidate had accepted the offer. Sorry if I ruffled some feathers, but I'd heard that this fabulous candidate had accepted the offer and was coming up here- we're excited to have this person for sure. I was under the impression that the deal was done, so please accept my apologies if it was in fact premature.
Peace be upon each of you and your respective job searches.

Thanks for the clarification.
And for the record, I see no problem with your previous post. It is my understanding that the purpose of this board is to share information that may not yet have made it through official channels, but nonetheless, is potentially interesting and/or useful to other invested parties, and it was clear that your post was meant to do just that. It is the responsibility of those who consume such information to decide how credible and/or useful it is (or isn't)...and wait to hear for sure from an official source, if that is what they choose to do.

If anyone had any doubts about whether or not committee members or other affiliates of the hiring institution are participating in this forum I think this thread proves that they are.
