Notre Dame will pretend to hire but instead have their 37th failed search in the last 10 years. Their track record at hiring is horrendous.

What do you not understand about the post? Notre Dame has had more failed searches than hires over the last ten years. Either the school is a mess, the department is a mess, or the department thinks they are better than they are, or some combination of the above. Tons of excellent people who easily fit whatever bar they should have either don't have jobs or would be willing to move up to Notre Dame. It's embarrassing for this department and it's bad for the discipline to have open positions and not hire.
I'll award 10 points to "failed failure" for hyperbole, and then I'll suggest that we move on.

Archivist, you might bring insults, but I bring receipts. Failed ND sociology searches since the 14-15 cycle: 21-22 computational 18-19 computational 17-18 computational 17-18 soc of ed 16-17 soc of ed 15-16 soc of ed 15-16 social movements They've hired 6 tenure-track faculty members in the department in that time, [snip] It's a well know and established fact that this department is terrible at hiring. Not sure why you're interested in suppressing factual information here. I am primarily interested in maintaining a forum that doesn't go off the rails. This often happens when one or more individuals seem determined to repeatedly hijack a thread to vent about specific individuals or institutions. This thread is about hiring rumors for next year. If anybody is interested in discussing a different topic, the Misc. Job Market Discussions section would be a more appropriate venue for this.

Update: I have edited the original post (and those that quoted it below), as it included disparaging remarks about current faculty members who could be easily identified.

-- ArchivistAnonymous poster with evidently many receipts specifically about ND Sociology: do you know when they actually did hire someone, what field, and who got the position?

The St. George campus (downtown) at the University of Toronto will likely be hiring for at least 2 positions, probably 3. Unclear which ones will get approved and at what ranks. Will know more in May.

That place is a dumpsterfire. check the news. Geez, lot of saltiness going around. U of A has a nice campus, great local food, and a solid program if you can stand the actual temperatures of the location. I wouldn't skip any of the universities in that state. On a side note, the University of Oklahoma will probably open a line or two in the next cycle.
