This is posted as a one year, but the potential for conversion to tenure-track is very strong.
Spring Hill College, a Jesuit, Catholic liberal arts college, invites applications for a position in Sociology beginning Fall of 2020. This is a one-year position with a possibility of conversion to a tenure-track line. While we are seeking a broadly trained sociologist, teaching interest in criminology is required for the position. Introduction to Sociology, Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, and Sociology of Law will be part of the annual teaching load, but opportunities to teach in others areas are abundant. Those who hold a Ph.D. or are ABD near a defense date will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor, while those who are ABD without a defense date will be appointed at the rank of Instructor.
The Department of Sociology at Spring Hill College is a small department with a strong commitment to student success. The program enjoys steady enrollment of over 60 majors, opportunities for student research and internships, and extensive support for community engagement. Building on Spring Hill College’s core curriculum, we offer the B.A. with a concentration in general sociology and a B.A. in sociology with a concentration in criminology.
Review of applications begin immediately, and will continue until position is filled. To apply, send letter of interest, current CV, and a statement on teaching to Harold Dorton, Professor and Department Chair of Sociology at hdorton@shc.edu. Please include “FACULTY SEARCH” in the subject heading. Arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same address, with “FACULTY SEARCH” and applicant’s last name in the subject heading.
