The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) seeks candidates for a tenure track assistant professorship in Black Studies in the new department of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender Studies (REGS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Preferred area is in any field of Black Studies (including but not limited to African American Studies, diaspora studies, environmental justice, Women of Color Feminism, and Critical Race Theory), or with an emphasis on the experience of people of color within a subject specialty resident in the CAS (including but not limited to Art and Art History, Communication Studies, Criminal Justice, English Language and Literatures, History, Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology).
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the new REGS Department, which may also be cross-listed in relevant subject areas. Expectations for teaching include participation in the general education program. Service obligations will include, in addition to standard forms of service, active participation in recruitment of students, community outreach, and support for the emphasis areas in the department - Black Studies, Latinx and Latin American Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
