Most people don’t hear back for a bit because the contract needs to be signed by the candidate and multiple people at the school. Given that it’s almost Christmas week (campuses closed) and campuses are running with very little staff this week, I’d guess things won’t be signed and finished until January sometime. Don't departments usually call campus visit candidates to at least let them know they weren't chosen as the first choice? Seems like a common courtesy.

Only one university I didn’t get the offer from sent an official rejection quickly. The others either didn’t give one or waited until all the paperwork was finished, about 6-8 weeks after my actual visit. Until the paperwork is signed, it makes sense they wouldn’t officially reject anyone

When I interviewed I was told candidates would be notified in January, so I'm surprised by all this activity, but I guess I know where I stand now.

The JM is tough and there are a million reasons why it might or might not work out. As others have said on this site, it’s hard not to get your hopes up

I’m confused by this search and info from the “insider” - I was not under the impression that they brought out 8 people or that there were 2 lines... which then makes me suspect the info given from this insider (assuming it’s the same person) about an offer being made. Perhaps that’s wishful thinking. I also think it’s strange that we haven’t officially heard back from the dept that an offer was made.
