They have been hiring in these areas every year for nearly a decade. What gives? Do they grow and grow, or is it a retention problem? Denver is a desirable location, so it is odd.

From what I've heard (pure speculation and rumor mill) they have a serious retention problem and a not-so-great departmental environment.

They have an excellent location and great working conditions (3/2 load) on paper. So, yes, I suspect a not-so-great environment departmentally. I too speculate that, although I have never heard it rumored.

Part of the challenge may be that the housing market in Denver is going the way of Seattle's, and they probably can't pay people enough to be able to live reasonably well there. A quick look at the price of buying a home in Denver suggests that they would have to be paying over $100k to make home ownership anywhere near the city possible for their faculty members. I don't know the salaries they're offering, but I'm guessing they fall far short.

This is a good point. I actually live in Denver and was wondering the same thing. Still surprises me that anyone would leave over ONLY that though. Buckets of people are still moving here anyway.

My intuition tells me that there is something else fishy not visible to the naked eye. I would give it a try, despite the turnover, for the location alone.

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions about climate. I know they have retirements coming and are probably hiring to replace those. Climate could also be an issue, I guess, but repeated hiring can mean many things.

I think Metropolitan State University of Denver was also hiring.. I applied for U Colorado Denver and the University of Denver, the one I heard from for the phone interview was the University of Denver--nothing from the other.

was anyone told about the timeline to flyouts- or heard anything from others? They said last week they’d be notifying interviewees within the next couple weeks. Nothing yet 🤞🏽🤞🏽
