Can the insider with info provide maybe a rough timetable? For instance, maybe phone/skype interviews finished by winter break and flyouts visits in January?

Post by new job ad on Nov 17, 2017 10:17:52 GMT -5
That new job ad may be due to not enough qualified (in their judgment) applicants, if it's the same announcement. I know Northern State (Aberdeen, SD) also re-announced their job opening, presumably for that reason.

That new job ad may be due to not enough qualified (in their judgment) applicants, if it's the same announcement. I know Northern State (Aberdeen, SD) also re-announced their job opening, presumably for that reason. Ouch I wouldn't panic yet. I know someone who hires (admittedly non-academics) in a university system. She told me that they have minimum rules, and they have to wait until they hit the minimum before they can move on. For instance, lets say they want to hire a new accountant. They need to have 5 qualified candidates before the administration ok's interviews. 30 people apply, including you. Out of those 30 people, only 3 (including you) fit the minimum qualifications, vaguely defined. So they need to re-announce the position and gather more until they hit that minimum threshold. You might be one of those already included; you might not. You'll only find out once they hit that minimum and the invites go out. I assume academic committees work on similar grounds, but I might be wrong. For what it's worth, I *really* wanted that Northern State position, so I can sympathize with the anxiety associated with not knowing. It's hard not to assume that they didn't think you were qualified, but we just don't know.

Long Beach just reposted ads for other disciplines too (WGSS, Poli Science). So maybe it's more of an institutional step than a sign of a failed search?

I know a bit about this search, and I don't think it has failed. Just slow moving..
