It's one thing if you are one of one hundred+ applicants and emailing them cold. But once you do a phone interview and they give you a timeframe and you haven't heard at the end of it, then it is perfectly professional and reasonable to follow-up with an email. They have expressed interest in you, got you excited about the prospect. You're only human for wanting to know - it would be weird if you didn't. And, really, it's bad form on their part not to have communicated further at this point to say either "we are delayed" or "thank you so much but sorry..." Of course, bad form on the hiring side is costless, right? Good luck to you!

they told me that they wanted to do job talks between thanksgiving and christmas. I haven't heard, but I assume no contact means didn't get it the lucky ones are just being quiet i think.

They currently have another search underway. So that may be interfering. I think it may be worth holding out hope. But it would be nice if someone could send some information one way or the other.

Post by a little more info on Dec 8, 2017 15:51:46 GMT -5
I think that was the original timeline as of the phone interviews, then things were delayed. Invites were supposed to go out at the end of last week from the university. They were being held up above the department level. At that point, pre-Christmas interviews were no longer a possibility. I suppose it is possible they are still held up and feeling less pressure given the timeframe extending now into January. But that is starting to feel less likely at this point to me. I already emailed them once to get that info because I do need to have some sense of my schedule over the next month or two. So it's somebody else's turn now

I already emailed them once to get that info because I do need to have some sense of my schedule over the next month or two. So it's somebody else's turn now So according to this post, the timeline for interviews is now extended into January but there are two further possibilities: (1) they are still be help up from above the department or (2) they are sitting on the invites because of less pressure to schedule because of timing change. It would be interesting to know which, but at this point, it doesn't really matter one way or the other does it? Best policy is probably to keep playing the waiting game and try not to let it bear too negatively on your mental state. Of course, easier said that done!

FYI, got an email rejection. Sad to be out of the running, but best of luck to those of you still in it.
