Figured it'd be nice for people to see what schools are participating in ES this year. Please post school names & what they're looking for here so we can all see what opportunities are out there.

There's been a change in the employment service this year. Apparently each candidate needs to list their details in the job search module of the ASA website, and they will be visible to the departments that are on the ASA job bank. So instead of the match-making system from previous years, everyone will be invited to show up to a job fair and approach potential employers' booths. www.asanet.org/annual-meeting-2017/annual-meeting-employment-fair

Do you think there's just going to be a huge line at each of the booths? I can't imagine how this is going to work.

It's early. Many schools don't yet have approval for lines in the fall. My guess is that more institutions will sign up at the last minute. But, who knows? My sense is that participation has been pretty sparse the last few years.

Agreed! The website says that if to schedule an actual meeting beyond the informal job fair, "job seekers should contact those employers participating in the Employment Fair with whom they would wish to meet prior to arriving in Montréal". In past years you could do this through the ES module, but now it's unclear who should be contacted - department chair? secretary? random faculty member? I really preferred the previous setup.

It's not going to be quite that bad. The "Employment Fair" is on Friday from 10-4, and anyone with a badge can get in and talk to people at their booths. Employers can set up one-on-one meetings with job seekers on Sat or Sun between 10-4, for any length of time (and can set them up in advance), and only those with interviews scheduled will be able to get into the employer hall. Also, the booths will have curtains between them, so we won't have to look at everyone else interviewing with people this year.

Saturday is the employment fair, with the interviews on Sun or Mon.

So the employer list is still dated May 19. Are they only updating once month or are there really only like 5 departments participating so far?

Maybe the new format has employers rethinking.

Here's a link to the public list of employers participating in the fair: www.asanet.org/annual-meeting-2017/employment-fair/2017-employersI took a look at our ASA-ES threads from the last two years, and in both cases only 10 or so institutions were listed by the end of June. It appears that most schools haven't signed up in years past until July or August. fwiw. Here's the current list: - Arizona State University, T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics
- California State University-Dominguez Hills, Department of Sociology
- Denison University, Anthropology and Sociology Department
- Loyola University Maryland, Department of Sociology
- Mount Holyoke College, Department of Sociology
- Rollins College, Department of Sociology
- Sam Houston State Univesity, Department of Sociology
- Skidmore College, Management & Business Department
- Texas Christian University, Department of Sociology and Anthropology

By my count, all of these ones have released their ads except ASU, Loyola Maryland, and Sam Houston. Correct?
