I know of one person who was told that his/her performance during ES is what got him/her the flyout, and subsequently the job offer. I've also seen people have wonderful interactions and not even get the flyout. As with much else in academia, it's a crapshoot.

If you haven't already joined and submitted requests for interviews, you may find that doing so now is a waste of money. Many employers have already filled their available slots as I understand it which means you may pay money and get no interview. BUT, it seems like there are also a couple of schools that join the service at the last minute - even at ASA itself.

Strangely, no. I have heard more schools schedule closer to ASA, but so far, not true.

This year's market is strangely quiet right now… not many jobs

Why do you say that? There are about 30 schools doing ES. I think job ads come out more consistently now, due to budgets, instead of in waves. Or so I have been told.

Has anyone kept count of ES numbers from previous years? My perception is that there used to be more than 40 schools participating. Seems like especially slim pickings, which I hope isn't an indication of the market overall this year.

So, did anyone on here get a campus invite from an ES interview? Was it worth it for anyone?

Not sure if this website is dead or just no one had anything positive to report since my last message (above). I suspect that ASA's ES isn't worth the time and expense -- we get hired based on our CVs and not much else, so next year I doubt I'll bother. Anyone else think so too?

I know that it did nothing but help me gain confidence in interviewing (and that's not a bad outcome). One of the schools that I interviewed with is already doing phone interviews - I haven't heard anything from them. The other two either just had the deadline pass or are in the application period. So I can't speak to if it helped me there or not. Perhaps others are in the same boat?

I very selectively interviewed with a couple of ES employers and have already been invited for an on campus interview to all of them. I am not sure if the ES interview helped or it's just that I only interviewed with places where I knew I would be competitive for a flyout.
