Any recent experiences with this one? In particular, I wonder about time to initial review, and how many reviews. Thanks in advance.

Submitted twice in the past year and a half, 6-8 month initial review time, 3 reviews.

Wow, that is slow. What was the decision when you finally heard?

It *was* slow. R&R both times, turnaround time on revisions was ~2 months. Comments from reviewers were helpful.

May I ask if your work was in the areas of crime and deviance? I saw on the other board that the journal publishes a lot of crim/deviance stuff. I wonder if that matters in terms of dearth versus plentiful supply of reviewers for the ms, and therefore impacts wait times. I have a piece that I would like to send here first, but such long times to initial decision certainly deter.

No, not in deviance and crime but in another big subfield in sociology. Should be plenty of reviewers out there, but willingness to review may have contributed. My manuscripts stood 'awaiting editor decision' for 2-3 months of the review time.

I had a good experience with this journal in the last year. Two reviewers made reasonable requests for an r&r and the editor made some helpful suggestions. I would submit again if I have a paper that needs a mid range general socilogy home.

Do it, what was your timeline for first decision?

First reviews took about four months, second reviews were short since we have a detailed response to the reviewers.

my experiences with this journal:
-reviewed about 4x, sometimes as 4th or 5th reviewer brought on after 2-3 rounds. Seems to be run like ASR, even though it's low status.
-Submitted once, could not get editor to answer emails after months, eventually pulled paper.
-Submitted again, about 7 mons later got very minor critiques (which one of the reviewers painted as damning) and got rejected. The same reviewer also wanted me to cite 10 articles by the same author (I wonder who the reviewer was?) that were not all that relevant.
I've published in all the lower-status generalist journals, and this one is by far the worst run, and puts you through the wringer. Its been a while, so perhaps there is a new editor.
