Has anyone heard about the strat and crim positions at Penn State? I am curious about how many applications they received, timeline, etc.

The wiki says there is a long list for the Penn State crim search. Was anyone contacted? What about for the strat search?

Were people notified that they are on the long list for the crim position at Penn State?

For PSU crim, they didn't inform long list (it lasted like 3 days until short list could be finalized). They now have a short list, and are going to be contacting the top few of that to schedule on-campus interviews (in the next week). Can't say where other PSU searches are...

According to SC member interviews are being scheduled for the crim position. Congrats to those who made it!

This is a bit confusing. Has everyone they want to fly out been contacted already or will they be contacted over the next week? Thanks

The wiki says that more materials were requested for the Penn State strat position. Anyone care to elaborate? Didn't they ask for writing samples and letters upfront?

The candidates PSU crim wants to fly out will be contacted within the next few days (if the chair hasn't already made the calls). He was given the list earlier this week.

The strat application requested names of references only. Letters of recommendation have been requested.

Oh - I had my writers send their letters already. I missed that in the directions on the application!

Interviews have been scheduled. My Inbox has an email asking us grad students to meet with the first interviewees next week.

Penn State is a major department. They 4-5 candidates and are dropping everyone else. Its called separating wheat from chaff, & everyone who isn't contacted is shaft.

Wow - the Crim search already scheduled interviews. They had the same deadline as the strat search. Does anyone know if the strat search will move quickly as well?

The info doesn't seem entirely correct, & I'm not sure who or what to believe. Anyone at Penn State or an interviewee who can shed light on this?
The two positions may be moving at different speeds. The crim position is competing for candidates who are also applying to several crim departments with searches underway, so that would suggest that SC may be moving faster. [That's not knocking their crim program, rather that their short list may get changed if the top people get jobs in other programs if they move slowly]. I've not seen as many strat searches, in comparison. That's my opinion, for what its worth.

There are two completely separate SCs with different chairs.
