The Department of Sociology and Legal Studies in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a Two-Year Definite Term Lecturer position (with possibility of renewal), in the area of Legal Studies, beginning August 1, 2016.
The Department of Sociology and Legal Studies is home to a dynamic, interdisciplinary Legal Studies undergraduate program. Sociology and Legal Studies is a research-intensive department comprising sociologists, criminologists, and socio-legal scholars engaged in innovative teaching, research, and professional mentorship programs. The Department has four areas of concentration: Crime, Law, and Security; Social Inequality and Public Policy; Migration, Borders, and Transnationalism; and Knowledge, Education, and Digital Culture.
The successful candidate for this position will hold a PhD in Legal Studies, Socio-Legal Studies, Sociology, or a related discipline, with a primary field of specialization in Socio-Legal Theory/Sociology of Law.
Duties will include teaching Socio-legal Theory/Sociology of Law (online and on campus) as a coordinated multi-section course as well as intermediate level undergraduate Legal Studies courses in one or more of the Department’s four key areas. The successful candidate will teach 8 one-term courses per year. Some courses will be taught more than once per year. Candidates must have experience teaching Legal Studies-related courses. Candidates must demonstrate: the ability to work collegially as well as independently; excellent leadership and organizational skills; and a willingness to keep abreast of research in the field of Legal Studies.
The salary range for this position at the Lecturer rank is $60,000.00-$70,000.00. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
