In Solidarity with Risman, SSS, and the Trans Community

Sociology sisters and brothers, you are invited to stand in solidarity with Barbara Risman's and the Southern Sociological Society's recent efforts to combat discrimination. We would like for everyone attending the Southern Sociological Society annual conference this week to make use of the restroom designated for the sex that is opposite of your birth sex as an expression of protest against discriminatory laws recently proposed by the state legislatures in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Thank you for your efforts to spread awareness and equal treatment of all genders.

Ironically, as I posted the above message I was confronted with a rather offensive capture system that asked me to identify the image of a woman...

I strongly support not scheduling any professional meetings in any states where this type of discrimination is going on until the laws are repealed. I personally will not attend any professional meeting (sociological or any other) as way to demonstrate my utter disgust for these actions. I encourage everyone else to do the same.
