The Department of Social Science at New York City College of Technology of The City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Sociology to begin Fall 2016. City Tech, a comprehensive college offering Associate and Baccalaureate Degrees, currently enrolls over 17,000 students and is located in downtown Brooklyn. The Department is dedicated to promoting student success and encourages its faculty to become involved in innovative educational approaches such as mentoring student research and learning communities.
The position requires teaching, student advisement, curriculum development, college service, and active research and scholarship. An area of specialization in Urban Sociology is preferred, but the successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to teach a wide range of Sociology courses (e.g., Technology and Society, Race and Ethnicity and Sociology of Social Problems) and must be willing to develop and teach new interdisciplinary courses. The position also offers opportunities for interdisciplinary work and collaboration with faculty in the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Professional Studies, and Technology & Design (e.g. Architectural Design).
