I have no specific info about what's going on with this hire, but I'm guessing that "we/no" is alluding to an inside hire. And it appears that "we/no" is being an ass about this.
The issues surrounding "inside hires" have been discussed elsewhere in multiple threads. I just want to point out that being an ass -- even anonymously on the internet -- is a horrible quality for somebody on the market hoping to become a lifetime faculty member in an academic department. You might think you can hide it when you're interacting with somebody IRL, but chances are it will shine through in ways you cannot tell.
Rule #1 about surviving in academia, whether you're dealing with students, colleagues, or administrators: don't be an ass.

Be that the poster was thinking the winning candidate is simply one of the dozens is mega qualified superstars on the market. Speaking as someone with an average Ph.D. and an average publication record, I was simply unprepared for the level of competition. I didn't take their comments as mean spirited but frustrated with maybe their own level of personal success that might not be as marketable today as it was maybe a decade ago. Seeing the hires this year has made me reflect on what I could have done better to secure a permanent job. that's nobody's fault but my own, imo

I read the comment as stirring the pot out of general frustration.

If interviews were completed by April 1, surely an offer has been made by now. Can anyone confirm?

How many new candidates will be contacted? Have invites already gone out?

If "more interviews are scheduled for May" I would assume that I (or you) haven't been scheduled. Sorry ...

This search process seems really odd... or is this how Canadian universities operate?

that's how they operate. The search process is an utter gong show at most Canadian universities.

Is this more of a gong show than most Canadian universities? It seems highly odd and unfair to interview candidates at significantly different times of the academic year over a span of months while leaving applicants in the dark. If this is a common practice at Canadian universities, I don’t think I will waste my time with future applications. If this is how they run searches, how do these departments function on a daily basis?
