Surely the SC has made moves by now. I wish people would be forthcoming with info and put me out of my misery.

idea ... be sure to ask the chair from an anonymous email account though. A winning candidate never calls.

Did anyone actually call or email the Chair? I asked someone I know who works in their Sociology Department and they did not know anything about the status of the search or at least claimed not to. I am beginning to wonder if this is going to be declared a failed search, which I vaguely remember hearing about with their term position last year. Does anyone have any information to add?

Maybe they were waiting on their budget? Ontario schools are really messed up in terms of pushing out job ads that they don't have the funding for. I have friends in the sessional lecturer/LTA asst prof circuit and it sounds like a nightmare as they get promises about opportunities then have them taken away when budgets are released.

joke ... it's gotta be a joke by now. Why would you expect people to send in their CVs and their full applications and then just be absent? NOBODY on here has the REMOTEST idea about the status of this search? Whatever, right? It's not like we have mouths to feed and deadlines to meet. Why should a search committee?

…how hard it is to have a secure income at the top levels of the middle class with a 2/2 or 2/3 teaching load and an army of TAs to handle your marking for you. You just can't appreciate how hard it is to add in a once a month attendance optional departmental meeting and—heaven forbid—a couple days sifting through some applications. Who do you think you are?

I'm sure the search is over. I think this is just a product of Canadians not frequenting these boards (or, at least, the Canadians with intel don't frequent these boards).
Sigh.
Adieu, Trent. I thought you and I had a chance.

this is another Lakehead: post the same position three or four times a year for multiple years and never move beyond the point of soliciting applications and never tell applicants what happened. Ontario universities are wonderful.

Lakehead Sociology has hired three tenure-track professors in the last two years (all men, all white, all look to be +\- two years of 40). Fortunately, I think Trent is more open to considering the qualifications of applicants. It is likely a budget issue causing the delay that could lead to cancelling the Oshawa position... Two other campuses in central Ontario just announced they are closing due to low enrolments. The Provincial government is not backing many new satallite campuses and enrolments tend to be low/declining. I would be completely shocked if they have done any interviews or hired someone already.

Isn't Durham a teaching campus, and Trent more general known as a teaching-focused university? As such, I think it is safe to assume that part of the interview would be teaching a class with actual students. Canadian classes end in the next couple of weeks, so I think if there has not been movement yet that this will be declared a failed-due-to-budget-issues search. Hopefully they have the courtesy to notify us and end the speculation/misery. Or maybe, just maybe, they will quickly get things together, do the interviews, and extend an offer in under a month. I have actually heard of this happening!! Perhaps foolishly, I am still holding out some hope.
