PSA everyone the cryptowall ransom malware is back and worst than ever. this version, which apparently surfaced in early November and decided to visit my house for Thanksgiving, attacks not from downloading a file from a suspicious email but apparently also simply from visiting an unbeknownst to you infected website that passes it on to you without you purposely downloading anything. another update re: 4.0 is that no haha we got you message pops up demanding the ransom (which now starts around 400 or 500 dollars); the virius just silently encrypts all your files and then the next time you go to open something you see that all the file names are screwy and there's a "help my files" instruction file that explains how to pay to get some type of key to un-encrypted them.
So heads up everyone, make a back up copy of files just in case you too get this unwelcome holiday surprise.
