here you go: Wofford College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology to teach a variety of courses in sociology. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and teaching experience in at least two of the following fields: social theory, criminal and deviant behavior, and race and ethnic relations. The college also encourages interdisciplinary and service-learning approaches. Qualifications: Earned doctorate in sociology (ABD's very near completion of their degree will also be considered). Wofford is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer committed to excellence through diversity and strongly encourages applications from members of under-represented groups. To learn more about Wofford explore www.wofford.edu. Is this posted anywhere? What's the deadline? How does one go about applying? According to Wofford HR, "FACULTY CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: May be viewed on the academic department website and by contacting the Office of the Provost at 864-597-4020." As of yet, the position does not appear on the Sociology department website so there is no information about how to apply or deadline. That will probably come after ASA.

It is very common for universities to interview at the Employment Service before the ad has been finalized or approved by HR. As such, it may be that the position isn't out yet.

How common is it for departments to continue to contact interviewees this week? If I haven't heard back, is it safe to assume that I won't unless I am a last minute add on at the conference?
And, what's the deal with the reduced number of listings? 44 last year, 32 this year?

I was just contacted today for one interview and people have posted in this thread about past conferences where people are contacted the same day as the potential interview.

Department is mix of crim. and soc. Strong recent hires. Campus is under construction and has a lot of new buildings. Nice place to work.

Keep in mind that at virtually all research universities (and UMass Boston is a RU/H university), publication counts are not what carry the day. Impact counts a lot. It is generally teaching schools that set a specific number of publications for tenure.

Does anyone have particularly positive or negative results to report? I.e., did anyone have very positive or very negative feedback/results from the ES?
Because from my POV, it all looked fairly uninteresting.

No, but in some cases I could tell they were really interested in me, while in others the chat/interview probably didn't matter much.

Not necessarily *after*, just more enthusiastic or negative than expected at the end of the interview. I.e., any evidence that the ES helped or hurt your chances besides "seemed interested" or "seemed bored." It was my first time and I left feeling underwhelmed with the experience, and was wondering how normal it was.

It was my first time too and the whole process was underwhelming - schools advertising late, a low number of schools, and it seemed kind of costly for the low amount of access. That being said, my outcome was fairly satisfying as I requested an interview at one place, I interviewed for that place and after the "speed-dating" round they contacted me to request additional information and that I complete my application. I think everyone here would understand that I'd rather not disclose who it was.
