The Department of International Development promotes interdisciplinary postgraduate teaching
and research on processes of social, political and economic development and change. The
department is dedicated to understanding problems of poverty and late development within local
communities, as well as national and international political and economic systems.
Candidates should have completed a PhD, or be close to obtaining a PhD, in the field of
environment and development from a social science discipline by the post start date. They will also
have expertise and research interests in the developing world, and ideally with how international
development can be integrated with climate change policy.
Candidates will have a track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications, as well as
a proven ability or potential to publish in top journals or with leading book publishers in
international development. They will also have a clear, well developed and viable strategy for
future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications and have
the ability to establish an international reputation in international development. Candidates will also
have excellent written and oral communication skills.
