About the census
Conducted every ten years and with a history spanning over 200 years, the census helps to paint as accurate a picture of the nation as possible. The survey is delivered on an extraordinary scale, and involves every resident across the UK. The data captured then assists the government in making key decisions, as well as businesses and the general public. The census statistics help paint a picture of the nation and how we live. It provides information regarding the population and its characteristics, and underpins funding allocation decisions to provide public services.
Since the last census in 2011, digital has transformed the way we live and work. In 2021, it’s estimated that around 75% of surveys will be completed online. With this in mind, the next census will require a complete overhaul in terms of both design and operation.
About the role
As Test Co-ordinator, you’ll work as part of a team to assist in the development and planning of testing for the 2021 Census. From setting out the types of testing required, to assisting with the analysis of test requirements, you’ll help to establish and co-ordinate an efficient testing strategy and plan. As well as working with those in your team, you’ll work closely with other technical and operational professionals across multi-disciplinary Integrated Project Teams (IPTs) to define all the testing required to ensure that the 2021 Census is robust from a technology, usability and operational perspective. In this role, your work will be fundamental to the digital transformation of the Census, as you help to shape, define and co-ordinate the implementation of the test plan.
About you
You’re an organised, enthusiastic individual, with considerable experience in planning tests, and testing services against both functional and non-functional requirements. If you’ve experienced operational testing of non IT services, in particular those associated with surveys, then that’seven better. With strong communication skills, you’ll be able to work with a variety of stakeholders. The census is a particularly unique programme, so there’s no particular preference on the sector you’ve come from. It’s what you can bring to the role in your testing expertise, organisational and personal skills, which will set you apart.
