Someone is trolling this thread and making stuff up. This information about an offer going out and being accepted is completely false.

A person or people on this thread has/have a PhD in sociology and yet no concept of language marking? And you employ the word "female" to describe a candidate? That had better be a troll from outside of the discipline. NO ONE with a PhD in this field should be making such statements.
If nothing else, it's evidence that this is a troll. I'd almost prefer that possibility to the idea that someone was trained in such a pathetic program as to say "offered to a female candidate." If you are within the discipline, educate yourself. This degree comes with rights and responsibilities. You're being called on to take responsibility.

There are reasons that we have feminist sociology and critical race sociology... Our discipline has produced some of the most horrific ideas around. Check out Herbert Spencer and George Fitzhugh.

Yes, Stumpknocker, I absolutely agree. It's less that I am fooling myself and more that I am saying "oh hell no. Not on my watch." Also, I had to stop myself from adding: You knew the candidate was "female"? Must have been awkward when you saw their external genitalia/primary sex characteristics at a job interview! Or was this based on DNA examination and hormone panel? Thank GOD I didn't interview at your school!

Aren't there discussions at FGCU to close the sociology program?
