ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN SOCIOLOGY
Date Posted: September 22, 2014
Region: Ontario
Institution: McMaster University
Discipline: Sociology
The Department of Sociology at McMaster University invites applications for a tenure stream appointment at the Assistant Professor level (or the Associate Professor level in exceptional circumstances) beginning July 1, 2015. The Department of Sociology is committed to enhancing diversity and to building on the strengths of current faculty and students. This search is undertaken to recruit a colleague who can help us achieve these goals. We seek a candidate with expertise in social inequality and whose research builds upon the department's existing areas of strength in race, ethnicity and immigration, gender, sexuality and family, politics, social movements and policy, education and work, and social psychology. McMaster Sociology is a leading, research-intensive department, seeking to build Canadian Sociology, study Canadian society, and help globalize the Canadian sociological imagination.
A PhD in Sociology is required, as is a strong track record of research and teaching. Applicants who have progressed to the point where completion of the PhD is imminent and who demonstrate clear promise of excellent research and teaching may also be considered.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. However, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority for these positions. McMaster University is strongly committed to employment equity within its community and to recruiting a diverse faculty and staff. The University encourages applications from all qualified candidates including women, persons with disabilities, First Nations, Metis and Inuit persons, members of racialized communities and LGBTQ-identified persons. If you require any form of accommodation throughout the recruitment and selection procedure, please contact the Human Resources Service Centre at Extension 222-HR (22247).
Applicants should submit an application package consisting of the following: a covering letter, a curriculum vitae, two sample publications, a 1-2 page teaching statement with evidence of teaching excellence, a 1-2 page research statement, and the names and contact information for three referees.
Application packages can be sent electronically to sochire@mcmaster.ca, addressed to Gregory Hooks, Chair, Department of Sociology.
Review of applications will begin on November 1 and will continue until the position is filled.
