Health coverage in Canada doesn't cover prescription drugs. That would require a private health plan.

How come you don't have a health plan? Serious question now. I thought that would be one thing I wouldn't have to worry about if I got a job at Canadian school. Because the person above doesn't have a "job" (i.e. a tenure track line). Instead, he/she is doing sessional or contract work, which is an increasingly common second-tier form of precarious employment, on the Wal-Mart model.

The poster above, "because ...", got the point of what I was trying to say. It is very rare for Canadian PhDs to land jobs at prestigious Canadian universities, such as UBC.
I was responding to the "kind" person who asked if I was "off my meds" for writing a poem about the frustration I experience on a daily basis, realizing I am simply not cutting it for this market.

I'm a Canadian. Let me clarify: No, provincial health insurance plans do not cover prescription drugs. They also don't cover dental, vision, and so on. All of those things (in addition to massage, chiro, etc.) are covered by private health insurance provided by your employer. Most of those plans also include international travel insurance, meaning you'll be covered when you travel back to the USA. A tenure-track job will almost certainly come with such coverage.

Americans would like to put you on meds, "Go," and they're coming! Off to McDonalds now...
