The College Board, the national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Research Scientist who will design and conduct applied research projects and program evaluations that involve multilevel and/or causal modeling, experimental, and quasi-experimental methodologies and will undertake research and analysis projects on large data sets to address questions associated with College Board assessments and educational initiatives. This position will also undertake applied measurement projects related to College Board assessment programs.
The position is open rank according to the qualifications listed below.
This position can be located either at the College Board office in Newtown, PA or at our New York City headquarters.
Essential Responsibilities
Collaborates and consults with researchers in the Research Department to design and conduct research studies to support College Board assessments.
Collaborates with research scientists within and external to the College Board to design and implement research studies that assess program impact on student achievement for individual programs and combinations of programs, particularly in middle and high school; identifies variables at student, teacher, school, district and state levels susceptible to policy and/or programmatic interventions.
Collaborates with College Board staff to design and implement assessment and educational initiatives in middle and high schools based on scientific methods and demonstrated approaches; identifies the appropriate designs to conduct formative and summative evaluations.
Collaborates with research scientists within and external to the College Board to design and conduct research studies to support the development of educational initiatives, particularly as they affect reduction of achievement gaps, college readiness, and college outcomes.
Designs and conducts research to inform local, state and federal policies.
Acts as primary liaison with other College Board departments, external vendors, and state assessment directors.
Conducts research and analysis projects using internal and external data that examines the relationships among college readiness indicators and college outcomes, and other related efforts.
Contributes to team goals associated with developing and realizing the yearly Research Agenda.
Provides statistical, measurement, and development support for College Board programs.
Publishes in a variety of forms (e.g., technical memoranda, research summaries and research reports) and outlets (e.g., conferences and journals) the results of research and statistical analysis projects.
Prepares program reports and statistical and descriptive reports.
Produces and delivers technical documentation, papers and presentations, to both technical and non-technical staff.
Writes summaries of research and statistical analyses for K12 systems, policy makers, educational leaders, and other external consumers.
Provides consultation as required in issues related to data collection and data quality, evaluation research and design, policy research, statistical analysis, and communicating the results of research.
With the appropriate level of experience, mentors Research staff members and contributes to team goals associated with developing and realizing the College Board’s Research Agenda.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Doctorate in educational research, measurement, psychology or a related field is required.
Assistant Research Scientist, candidates should have up to 4 years of experience in educational research, measurement, cognitive psychology or program evaluation in either a K-12 or higher education applied research environment.
Associate Research Scientist candidates should have 4-7 years of experience.
Research Scientist candidates should have 7+ years of experience.
Strong skills in measurement, research design and methodology, advanced statistics, and use of statistical software.
Demonstrated ability to design and conduct research studies and statistical analyses are required.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage large and complex assessment-related research initiatives.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, interpersonal and public relations skills, and writing and editing as evidenced by publications and presentations.
